Bongani Morrison Yona

Bongani Morrison Yona is a film director and producer. He was born in Molteno and went to Zakheni L.P. School before moving to Whittlesea midyear to finish his last year of primary school at Sozizwe L.P. School. He then went to Lonwabo Higher Primary School and after that he went to Nompumelelo Junior High and Khanya High School. His love for filmmaking made him stop at nothing to achieve his dream.

He then applied to the National Film and Video Foundation and got a bursary to study Film and Television Production Techniques at City Varsity Cape Town and finished his Advanced Diploma in 2012. In his time there he wrote, produced and directed short films, PSA’S, Adverts and a music video.

After working for a short stint on an American Television Series called SAF 3 as an intern he registered his own production company BMY FILMS (PTY) LTD. In 2014 he produced and directed a music video for an upcoming songstress Mary-Jane called Ndixakiwe which is streamlined on Youtube and flighted on Channel O. He co-wrote and directed his first feature film, uNosala, which was flighted on Mzansi Magic Channel 161 in 2016.

In 2018 he attended the SABC/Media Workshop 48-minute stand-alone feature film under the SABC Aspirant Filmmakers’s Development Program (2018). In 2021 Bongani received funding from the National Lotteries Commission for development of Isazisi feature film.
